As the leader of J.P. Morgan’s so-called disruptive commerce group, Grose has advised a list of companies that reads like a who’s who of Silicon Valley, including Lyft, Wayfair, Airbnb, Grubhub, and DoorDash, as well as more established stalwarts like Walmart and Target. The San Francisco–based investment banker works 16-hour days—though the stay-at-home orders of the pandemic have actually boosted his productivity, given the time saved by not traveling to see clients: “I am able to cover twice as much ground in the same amount of hours per week,” he says. While Grose specializes in Internet and digital media companies (spanning sectors from retail to health care), he also has a broader role as COO of North America technology investment banking for J.P. Morgan.
