Walmart named Zhu CEO of its China division in May 2020; she’s the first woman and first native Chinese to hold the position. Zhu had been president of Greater China for Fonterra, a New Zealand–based dairy company. During Zhu’s four-year tenure leading Fonterra in China, the company’s Anchor became the most popular semi-skimmed milk brand in China after just six years in the market. At Walmart, Zhu, a Honeywell and McKinsey alum, oversees the retail giant’s growing $11.4 billion business in China that spans 403 physical retail stores. All Walmart China stores have partnered with JD Daojia, a crowdsourcing delivery app, to offer customers one-hour delivery. Zhu helped introduce a new initiative that enlists JD Daojia contract workers to pick orders—in addition to delivering them—which eases the demand of online orders on in-store operations.
