From her perch leading Macquarie, the global financial services firm that is one of the world’s major infrastructure managers, Wikramanayake is working to mobilize private capital for climate solutions and reshape the built world. Since taking charge of the Australian-headquartered bank in late 2018, the CEO has emerged as one of the business world’s most vocal and engaged leaders on climate change, willing to tackle the critical if tedious nitty-gritty involved in transitioning to a low-carbon economy. She serves on a roster of influential committees—for example, she was recently appointed cochair of the Climate Finance Leadership Initiative in India—seeking to drive increased investment in climate adaptation and mitigation efforts around the world. She also recently led Macquarie’s business to a banner year, as the firm reported record profits for the fiscal year ending March 2021, up 10% over the previous year.
