Walmart is the world’s second-largest retailer, offering both physical retail and e-commerce. Until February 2025, it was America's largest company by revenue. Groceries currently account for 50% of its sales, but the company also sells a wide range of general merchandise, through Walmart U.S., Walmart International, and Sam’s Club warehouse stores. Walmart also offers health care products and pharmacy services. Founded in 1962, the company changed its name from Wal-Mart Stores to Walmart in 2018.

Change the World 2024
Walmart in 2017 became the first retailer to agree to hit science-based targets to reduce emissions. That same year, it launched Project Gigaton in 2017 to reduce, avoid, or sequester 1 billion metric tons, or a gigaton, of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. With more than 5,900 of its suppliers signing up to cut carbon emissions, Walmart hit its gigaton goal this year—more than six years ahead of schedule.
