Danaher, a diversified conglomerate, scored high for having senior independent nonexecutive directors on its board, and for ESG, among other criteria. Cofounder Steven Rales has served as the board’s chairman since 1984, and Mitchell Rales, Steven’s brother and the other cofounder, serves as chairman of the executive committee. CEO Rainer Blair also serves on the board, as do Linda Hefner Filler, former president of retail at Walgreen and former chief merchandising officer of Sam’s Club and Walmart; Teri List, who is on the board of Microsoft and Visa; and Alan Spoon, former chief operating officer of the Washington Post and partner with Polaris Partners.

Danaher has received analyst praise for strong long-term revenue growth, as well as steady dividend growth that has outpaced the health care sector median for the past decade. The company has also demonstrated strong M&A performance, deploying $11 billion in capital for acquisitions and closing 14 deals in 2021.

In its 2021 sustainability report, Danaher announced progress toward several diversity and sustainability targets, including reaching base pay equity for women and employees of color in the U.S. The company is also a signatory of the CEO Action for Diversity and Inclusion pledge.
