It runs VisaNet, one of the world’s largest electronic payments processing networks, and offers credit, debit, and prepaid card products, as well as tap- and click-to-pay services. Launched by Bank of America in 1958 as BankAmericard, the Visa card was the first general-purpose credit card to offer revolving credit. The Visa brand was established in 1976, and Visa became a publicly traded, independent company in 2008 after a historic IPO.
