The nation’s largest VA purchase lender celebrates its seventh year on the list thanks in part to a laser-like focus on employee well-being. Along with various culture-building initiatives including welcoming new hires with a gift box of personalized swag on their first day, the company offered flexible telecommuting options to employees who weren’t quite ready to return to the office in April 2021, and the people services team called more than 2,000 employees working from home to check in. Veterans United also contributed $3,000 to each employee’s 401(k) alongside a cash bonus of $2,020 in the past year. In addition, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the company provided a $1,000 cash bonus for workers to donate in their communities as they saw fit. “It empowered us and helped us feel like we were able to make a difference ourselves in the areas where we felt most passionate,” one employee notes.
