The retail sector accounts for roughly 25% of global carbon emissions; Vaayu is one of several startups aiming to help it reduce that footprint. Founded during the pandemic, the German software company works with more than 60 brands and businesses within the retail ecosystem to help them trace and cut their carbon and environmental impact, encouraging them to make greener decisions about their supply chains—and, sometimes, to help their customers choose the greenest available products.<br />

Among its biggest collaborations is with secondhand-clothing retailer Vinted, Europe’s largest consumer-to-consumer platform. In partnership with Swedish fintech company Klarna, Vaayu has produced a carbon emissions tracker that enables over 150 million Klarna shoppers to track an item's CO2 emissions along various stages of its life cycle—empowering them to make more mindful shopping decisions. Vaayu’s other apparel, fashion, and retail partners include Ace &amp; Tate, Veja, Missoma, ASKET, and Otrium.
