Twilio makes software to help companies interact with customers, and the firm sent some meaningful messages of its own during the coronavirus pandemic. When Twilio went fully remote to protect employees, it also gave them $1,500 each to set up home workstations, implemented flexible scheduling for those with competing pandemic-related demands, and even gave a small extra stipend to employees with caregiver responsibilities. It also hired ferociously during the pandemic, as it shared in the broader growth in cloud computing. Twilio’s response to the national dialogue on race and equity included the decision to make Juneteenth a permanent company holiday and commit to pay equity companywide. One employee described the response as “exemplary. It was real, meaningful, extensive, and sustained. I feel proud.”
