Sheetz encourages employees to express their individuality through their personal appearance, but that’s not the only way this popular chain of convenience stores and coffee shops is attracting and retaining talent. After raising wages by $3 an hour in 2020, the company bumped up pay by another $2 an hour in 2021. Sheetz also has partnerships with more than 20 colleges and universities offering tuition discounts of as much as 25%. All employees receive a bonus four times a year, there’s an employee stock ownership plan for anyone who works more than 1,000 hours in a year. In 2021, the company expanded its diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts to create a more open and accountable work environment for all employees. It’s all part of what helped Sheetz to vault 50 spots higher on the list this year.
