“Open communication” is a popular business buzzword, but Scripps Health’s dedication to it is unique, earning the company its 15th appearance on the Best Companies to Work For list.
- To show workers what it’s like to walk in someone else’s shoes, Scripps has the Other Side of the Fence program, which lets them shadow people in other departments and “try out” new positions.
- Last year, the company expanded the number of employees eligible for its employer contribution program, which helps pay medical premiums for staff on the lower end of the pay scale. Anyone who earns $20.42 or less per hour is now eligible.
- Compensation is based on experience alone. To ensure it maintains this standard, Scripps recently completed a three-year review of all staff members’ experience to ensure they were within the appropriate compensation range. This led to $14 million in adjustments.
