San Diego–based health care system Scripps Health makes an effort to listen to its workforce through its Employee 100 Program, which brings together senior executives and rotating frontline workers for monthly discussions. Scripps Health continues to address the issues of stress and burnout caused by the pandemic with specially designed break rooms known as Zen Dens at its hospitals. Staffers show each other support using Excel Together, the company’s streamlined e-card system, which processed more than 50,000 employee messages in 2020 and 20,907 in 2021. “Leadership, from the CEO down, genuinely cares about serving the community and our employees, and they make it known through their words AND their actions,” says one employee.
