Ahold Delhaize is a Netherlands-based group that operates a group of 16 supermarket chains, grocery wholesalers and e-commerce brands operating over 7,700 stores in Europe, the U.S. and Indonesia. These include Belgium’s Delhaize—founded in 1867 and the pioneer of self-service supermarkets in Europe—the Netherlands Albert Heijn, and Romania’s Mega Image, though it also has chains in Czech Republic, Greece and Serbia. Ahold Delhaize has been dabbling with the idea of an IPO for subsidiary Bol.com, which is the leading player in the Netherlands’ e-commerce market, but hadn’t committed as of October 2024. Combined, it employs 402,000 people and serves 63 million customers a week. Ahold Delhaize is headquartered in Zaandam, just outside of Amsterdam.
