Reinsurance Group of America (RGA) is one of the largest global providers of life and health-related reinsurance. RGA’s history traces back to the 1970s when General American Life Insurance entered its first reinsurance arrangement, and after rapid growth saw RGA incorporated in 1981. In more recent years, RGA stepped up to the plate during the coronavirus pandemic, paying out $2.5 billion in COVID-related claims through 2022. In February 2025 it announced a $1.5 billion deal with Equitable to reinsure $32 billion worth of life insurance policies.
