PG&E is a major energy holdings company, providing electric and gas to 16 million customers across large swaths of northern and central California. The company has been ravaged by scandal in recent years, including criminal charges for inadvertently injuring six firefighters and endangering public health during a fire in 2019. In May, the company was hit with a nearly $150 million fine for neglect that caused wildfires and the mismanagement of power outages in recent years.
