This Seattle law firm took just 10 days to make the transition to remote work, mailing laptops, monitors, mice, keyboards, and video cameras to employees’ homes. Staff were even allowed to take desks and chairs home if needed. And in an unheard of move for a law firm, Perkins Coie decided the employee evaluation process would not take into account billable hours or hours worked in 2020 and 2021. Perkins Coie also provided “emergency care time” of 30 hours and free Headspace subscriptions for staff. As one employee puts it, management was “transparent in the firm’s response, next steps, and general state of the firm.”
