One of the largest oil and gas producers in the U.S., Houston-based Occidental Petroleum is so much more. While the heart of Oxy’s business lies in the Permian Basin in West Texas and New Mexico, Oxy also churns out volumes from the Gulf of Mexico, the Rockies, and internationally in Oman, Algeria, and the United Arab Emirates. Oxy recently doubled down on the Permian with the $12 billion acquisition of CrownRock. But the 105-year-old company is also focused on petrochemicals with its OxyChem business, and it is branching out heavily into the energy transition. By the end of 2025, Oxy will have launched the world’s largest direct air capture facility, in West Texas, designed to literally suck CO2 out of the sky.
