O.C. Tanner

Companies buy O.C. Tanner’s custom-made awards and human resources software to help them recognize and reward employees. That means it’s extra important for O.C. Tanner to have an outstanding internal culture itself. Early on in the pandemic, the Salt Lake City–based company tapped its own manufacturing lines to churn out protective equipment for health care workers, including 47,400 face shields. To express its gratitude to workers who kept operations humming, O.C. Tanner gave out 384 “frontline hero” awards, which came with pins, commemorative “yearbooks” chock full of thank-you notes, and $1,000 bonuses. “Employee appreciation is engrained and sincere,” an employee says. “It’s in our DNA.”
