Nestlé in Fortune Rankings

Cows were once a competitive advantage for Switzerland, which helps explain how the 1905 merger of two Swiss dairy companies would eventually produce the world’s largest food and beverage business. Nestlé still sells in the product categories it originally pioneered— condensed milk and baby formula — albeit as part of a 2,000-brand product range that includes coffee (Nescafé and Nespresso), pet food (Purina), ice cream (Häagen-Dazs), bottled water (Vittel) and chocolate (Kit-Kat). In recent years, Nestlé has also expanded heavily into specialist and health nutrition, and plant-based foods. A stalwart of the Fortune Global 500, it employs 270,000 people worldwide and sells into 188 markets.
