Nationwide employees know it’s more than just an insurance company with a catchy jingle: It’s a place where they can grow their careers. Since 2020, the company has invested $160 million in its Future of Work Center, a five-year program focused on upskilling and reskilling Nationwide’s associates. Diversity, equity, and inclusion is also a big companywide initiative, which includes programming like Cultural Fluency in the Workplace, which helps workers develop cross-cultural acumen when interacting with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and varied perspectives. “I specifically love the sense of community obligation and treating people as a whole being and not just a skill set,” says an employee. Development opportunities abound for those who work in the office, as well as for the 50% of employees who routinely work from home, and Nationwide makes an effort to keep remote workers connected to the company’s culture.
