Credit card and global payments technology company Mastercard was No. 93 on last year’s Best Companies list after returning from a 2022 absence, and has now climbed another 30 spots. Mastercard prioritizes receiving employee feedback through its Employee Experience and Pulse Surveys as well as “seat at the table” and “open circle” meetings. After the war in Ukraine began in February 2022, Mastercard teams in the area helped employees get to safety. The company’s employees gave $400,000 in gifts to its Employee Assistance fund, the Red Cross, and Save the Children, with Mastercard donating an additional $5 million. After the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria the following February, Mastercard made a $550,000 donation to the World Food Programme and Needs Map.

In 2023, Mastercard celebrated three years of InSolidarity, its initiative to combat racism and racial pay and opportunity disparities. InSolidarity addresses job mobility for its Black employees and Black representation on nonprofit boards. Mastercard’s Girls4Tech STEM education program has impacted 6.7 million girls and 7,500 employee volunteers since its 2014 inception. It has a goal of reaching 5 million girls by 2025.

• In 2022, Mastercard launched a new initiative called Unlocked, an internal marketplace where employees can post and/or look for opportunities, including short-term projects, mentorship and career counseling offers, and volunteering opportunities.


• Recently, Mastercard celebrated the two-year anniversary of In Solidarity, its company-wide initiative created in response to the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020. The program includes mutual mentorship programs for Black employees, an effort to help place Black staff members on nonprofit boards, and an initiative to pair employees with community organizations focused on racial justice.
