Markel Group

The Markel Group is an insurance, investment, and venture capital company, founded in 1930 during the Great Depression. Today, its core business is its specialty insurance arm, which focuses on “hard-to-price complex risks” like business casualties, personal events, and market bonds. As of 2025, it also owns nearly two dozen companies in the eastern U.S., including in the transportation, real estate, and construction industries.
