The Copenhagen-headquartered shipping and logistics group owns over 700 container vessels across 130 countries. Higher freight rates last year pushed Maersk to the best performance in its history, with its $81.5 billion in 2022 revenue representing a 32% increase on 2021, which was also a record year. Earnings jumped 62.7% to $29.2 billion.

Under seven years of Skou’s leadership, the company’s shares roughly doubled as he set about transforming it from a diversified shipping and logistics group into a “global integrator of container logistics”, providing ocean freight, terminals, warehouses, land logistics and supply chain services. He also committed Maersk to net zero by 2040—a considerable task given that by its own admission it currently accounts for about 0.1% of total global greenhouse gas emissions.  </li>

First half 2023 revenues dropped a third against the same period in 2022, with Ebitda falling more than 70%.</li>

The world’s largest container-shipping company has a carbon footprint bigger than that of some entire countries. But Maersk is building infrastructure to transition away from shipping’s notoriously noxious “bunker fuel.” It has partnered with energy companies to ramp up production of green methanol, a biofuel, and it's awaiting delivery of 13 green-fuel-powered ships: The first will launch in 2023.

Oceangoing ships rely on particularly dirty fuels—which makes Maersk, the world’s largest container-shipping company, a key player in the race to net zero. By 2024, Maersk will launch eight ships that rely in part on biofuels, putting them on track for carbon neutrality. Maersk is also advising 200 of its customers, including high-volume shippers like Amazon and Levi Strauss, on reducing their carbon footprints.

For an astounding 13th straight year, Apple claims the top spot in Fortune’s annual ranking of corporate reputation, based on a survey of almost 3,800 executives, directors, and analysts.

This year's Fortune Global 500 generated $27.6 trillion in revenues and $1.5 trillion in profits.

The world's 500 largest companies generated $31.2 trillion in revenues and $1.7 trillion in profits in 2014. Together, this year's Fortune Global 500 employ 65 million people worldwide and are represented by 36 countries.

Nike, Cisco, MasterCard, SABMiller, Vodafone, Google—and 45 other companies that are doing well by doing good.

Global business is back. After limping through a worldwide financial crisis and economic slowdown, the 500 largest companies ranked by revenues shattered all sorts of performance records in 2013: They racked up combined revenues of $31.1 trillion, up 2.5% from 2012, and profits soared 27% to nearly $2 trillion. China’s 95 companies (up from 89 last year) posted $5.8 trillion in revenues. The U.S. has four fewer companies on the list than last year but remains (for now) the country leader, with 128 corporations on the list—including No. 1 Wal-Mart Stores—reporting $8.6 trillion in revenues.
