Macy’s is one of only two department store operators left on the U.S. stock markets, along with Dillard’s. Though the chain has struggled for years against discounters like T.J. Maxx and online rivals like Amazon, it is still a behemoth. The company operates 450 namesake department stores, along with the Bloomingdale’s and Bluemercury chains in the U.S. In 2024, it began a three-year rejuvenation program called Bold New Chapter, focused on building up its luxury business and simplifying its operations. The company has a few billion-dollar brands like Alfani, and is a major seller of brands like Nike and Ralph Lauren.
