"Kimley-Horn puts its people first in all things and I've seen evidence of that constantly throughout my 4.5 years here. I feel as though my work is valued and that I am constantly able to pursue opportunities for growth within the firm; additionally, I am just returning from parental leave, and I have been so impressed with the level of support that I've received in preparing for leave, while out, and now upon returning. I feel valued and am given the support I need for as seamless of a transition back as possible. I know my colleagues are happy to support me in this new stage of life and want to help me have the best experience possible."

Employees say:
"As a new mom, I was given equal opportunities to succeed (and rewarded for my hard work), even though I took a 4-month maternity leave. Being on leave did not reduce my opportunities for promotions, and I am extremely grateful for all of the opportunities I have been given at KH! I am also very grateful for all the support I received as a new working mom (mom buddy, mom coaching, etc.). KH wants me here, and I want to be here because this is a great place to work!"

Employees say: "Kimley-Horn is insanely good at adapting to the market in constantly changing circumstances. There are endless opportunities to work up and further your career. Kimley-Horn also does an excellent job at sharing profit with its employees and making sure we get the best possible benefits. For a fast-pace workplace, there are also a lot of opportunities to commune with one another and celebrate wins and holidays together."

Employees say:
"The amount of profit sharing and recognition through bonuses (both annual and throughout the year) is unparalleled. Our profit sharing is at a level that my 401k is significantly higher than the national average at retirement age while I am still at least 20 years from retirement. We plan well in advance for leadership transitions and communicate them with all staff well in advance. We routinely seek input from all levels of staff and encourage new ways to do things. Young analysts across the firm are tasked with 'efficiency consulting' to find new and better ways for both external and internal processes. We include spouses and families in fun events for the office. My husband and daughters know my colleagues and also consider them friends."

Employees say:
"Opportunities are abundant for self-improvement as well as relocating when the need arises. Rewards are frequent and shared evenly across the firm. They are flexible for the most part with time off, hours/schedule, and working from home when needed."

Employees say:
"Honestly, the whole organization stands out to me, especially in comparison to other firms and jobs in general. I am constantly talking with my significant other about our jobs and based on the things she tells me, I am extremely happy to be part of Kimley-Horn. Whether it be salary, flexibility, managers taking care of their staff, or the benefits, Kimley-Horn has excelled at making me feel comfortable and content with my position."

Even though it has more than 100 offices nationwide, Kimley-Horn makes an effort to build connections among staff throughout the company—regardless of location or seniority. As soon as they are onboarded, new hires are given five coupons to take 25 employees out to lunch on the civil engineering and consulting firm’s dime. (They get new coupons every year for the first five years of employment.) And they can invite anyone they want—it’s not uncommon to see senior leaders breaking bread with new hires through the initiative.
In late 2022, Kimley-Horn hosted its first-ever companywide Rock, Paper, Scissors tournament, starting with a pool of 6,000 employees and eventually narrowing the field down to eight finalists, who were flown out to St. Petersburg, Fla., for the last round (where the chairman served as referee). Overall, the top 64 finishers earned over $300,000 for charity donations made by the Kimley-Horn Foundation.
Kimley-Horn offers “genius grants” to entrepreneurial employees with innovative business ideas, which have in the past focused on areas such as EV infrastructure, green hydrogen, and advanced air mobility.
