Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) operates stock exchanges, clearinghouses, and data services for financial and commodity markets around the world. At its founding in 2000, ICE’s primary focus was to provide a more transparent marketplace for energy commodities. As a result of a series of acquisitions, however, its role today is far broader. ICE operates 12 exchanges worldwide, including the New York Stock Exchange—the world’s biggest—and six central clearinghouses. ICE runs both spot and futures trading platforms and has a sizable data business.
