IBM is a cornerstone of U.S. business that is best known for its software, cloud computing services, and consulting. Incorporated in 1911, and later rebranded as International Business Machines, the company has ridden the many waves of innovation over the decades, from early technology such as tabulating machines, and time clocks for employee punch-ins, to today’s advancements in artificial intelligence. As of 2024, it was among just a few dozen companies to have appeared on the Fortune 500 every year since the list’s inception in 1955.
