Founded in 1961, Humana is the fifth-largest health insurance company by membership in the U.S., offering coverage for over 20 million Americans. The company’s revenue grew to $83.1 billion in 2021, a 7.7% increase in revenue from 2020. Much of that growth was driven by Humana’s Medicare Advantage programs, which enroll roughly 5 million people; the company projects that membership in those programs will grow by another 8% in 2022. In April 2022, Humana announced the sale of a 60% stake in KAH Hospice, the nation’s largest home health and hospice provider, for $2.8 billion to private investment firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice.
