Humana is yet another health insurer which climbed the ranks in the latest Fortune 500 list. In 2019, the company’s consolidated revenues grew to nearly $56.5 billion, a more than $8 billion spike from the previous year. Like other insurers, Humana was able to take advantage of the suspension of a health insurance industry fee, which lowered its tax burden. The company also boosted its earnings-per-share numbers with the help of stock buybacks. Humana’s dedication to the ever-lucrative Medicare market, as a for-profit insurer, continues to serve it well.
