Mindy, when you came to HSN, there was pretty much a new CEO every single year for a while, and there were a lot of doubts about the future of the company. What did you have to do to get people to believe in what you were gonna do, and to believe in your leadership? To your point, I was the eighth CEO in ten years. So I knew that the first thing I had to do was reinspire the culture and make them believe that this was a company that they were going to be proud of, to be part of for the long term and I think that culture is the most important positive weapon that you can have as an organization and as a business. And so you need to inspire people. You need to give them a vision. You need to tell them how you're going to achieve that vision and what their part in that vision is. What do you think was the key thing you did to get those people inspired and motivated to follow you? My first day at work, I went to employee orientation, not telling anyone who I was. And when we went around the room and I said, I'm the CEO of HSN. And I spent the day in the call center, backstage TV, and everywhere else in the company. It made me immediately human and accessible. And I think people have to understand that the qualities today of leadership Have to be courage, have to be humanity, have to be generosity, and they have to be authentic accessibility. And all of those things were what was lacking. And so immediately they said she's different. And we're going somewhere. I understand that you mentor a lot of women. You're grooming them to be leaders. What is the key message that you leave with these young women? A, you have to find what you're passionate about and follow it. I wake up each day, I am passionate about what I do and who I do it with. The second thing is it has to be purposeful. There are some things I'm passionate about but they won't necessarily be my career. And the third is, aim to have impact. I don't care if it's your first job. Or if you've gotten to a position like mine your goal is to build the relationships, look to make everyone in the company successful and in turn you will be succesful. Mindy you have worked with some of the biggest names Ralph Lauren Phil Knight, Berry Diller, and I'm sure you've gotten a lot of advice along the way. What's the best advice you've ever gotten? Well you just mentioned the three of them, so I'll give you one from each. From Ralph, it's more important what you learn how to say now to then what you say less to if you're gonna protect your brand, and have an incredible filter. from Phil, the best piece of advice he gave me is " Mindy, you will be more successful, as will the company, don't try to keep making ordinary people extraordinary, hire extraordinary people and surround yourself with extraordinary people and then certainly from Barry, with taking and that's why I've always loved working for entrepreneurs Because it's instilled in me an entrepreneurial spirit of how I go into things, and I have that ownership as if I was the entrepreneur behind the brand or the business.

Mindy you have been a powerful player in this whole retail business for many, many years. Polo, Ralph Lauren, Nike, now HSN. What have you seen that has changed in the whole shopping experience, I mean what are the big trends right now? The explosion of mobile has changed Help people connect with brands, how they shop, what they do, and their behavior. And you have to look at your brand and say, how am I gonna take advantage of that. But it's also been disruptive in the retail landscape. It's had to make every retailer Really understand how are they gonna reach the customer more effectively. And the way to do it is that you have to be able to connect with them 360 degrees. You talk about mobility, the cell phone, and we hear that a lot, especially with millennials, they want what they want when they want it, a click away. Tell us a little bit more about how that's changed the whole retail experience. Well the way to think about it is that mobile device is the most personal device you can have. What is a reason that when somebody wakes up in the morning, they're gonna check the weather, check their emails, and then they're gonna check in with you. You have to become part of their daily life. And they have to be able to access you when they want in a seamless way. With the expectations that are getting higher and higher of What they want to see and how they want to engage. You know that the whole US economy depends, a lot is driven by consumer spending. What is your take on consumers' appetite for spending right now? They're much more discrete on what and how they're going to spend. There's a lot more competition for that spin. Think of the cost of a single family just in technology, and what they're spending on technology. So if you are gonna have somebody spin with you, it has to be because there's a reason why they're spending with you versus someone else. And it's gonna continue to be competitive. I think the second thing is people are looking for experience, not just things and you're definitely seeing that with millennials. What does it take to get a consumer to open up their wallet because everybody's very stingy about their money. Is it bargains? Is it quality? Is it something else? So I think great price value is table stakes and that doesn't mean you're giving them a discount off of something. Its They know that they're getting a great price value for what they have. I think the second thing is great differentiated product, things that you can't get anywhere else, things that if you know your customer are relevant and meaningful to them. And then, certainly, a place where the consumer really wants and is comfortable shopping. Those things are all critical. It used to be with department stores, they would change their windows once a month or maybe more frequently. It seems like in your business, you have to be much more nimble than that. Our store changes every day. And if you think about that, we have 24 hour set teams. But not only our live show, Our entire digital experience changes every day. But that is today's expectation. There can be nothing today that's static. Agile is the new smart. You have to be able to be as flexible and your ability to change based on what you're seeing in terms of consumer behavior is really important.

Mindy, when you say the name Home Shopping Network, many people think of t. v. sales pitches for costume jewelry. And yet, it's become a lot more hip and cool since you took over HSN. Give us a description about what is HSN. Now it's a complete experience of Keith Urban talking to you about these Cars, or Iman talking to you about fashion or Sophia Berger talking to you about fragrance. So we are bringing this idea of excitement of new discoveries to people and things they can't get anywhere else. And the empowerment of having the story behind it. So it's Ultimately a bad engagement. Well, you know, every single retailer, whether it's Walmart or Amazon, is trying to come up with ways to attract shoppers to come to their online site. I mean, what do you find is the most effective strategy. Obviously, it's working for you. Very important. And it's four things. All related to experience. One is how do you use insights in data to drive engagement and drive personalization and customization? Number two, engagement, how are you using that content effectively? Number three is what I call generosity, what are you giving not just selling? So HSN Arcade, for example, is a great Identification of that. And then the fourth is trust. You have to have every one of those four things, particularly for the consumer to want to engage with you constantly and frequently online. Well you talk about engagement, you also have a whole entertainment component, a gaming component. What's that all about? We know our customer loves to shop. We kn ow she lobes to share, She's very engaged socially, And we know she loves to play casual games. So we said why can't you do all of that with us? So we launched the first retail casual gaming portal, still the first one out there And we now have 1. 2 million registered game players that come three times as often, stay three times as long, and spend three times as much.
