Hon Hai Precision Industry—better known as Foxconn—is the world’s largest manufacturer of electronic parts and servers, and in 2021 it continued to benefit from the boom in consumer demand for electronics. It earned $214.6 billion in revenue in 2021—a record high—as pandemic-era work-from-home and virtual-learning habits encouraged consumers to update their devices. Foxconn is Apple’s largest manufacturing partner for iPhones, but even after a strong year for smartphones worldwide—unit sales increased 7% globally—Foxconn kept up ongoing efforts to limit its reliance on its relationship with the Cupertino, Calif., giant. Foxconn is aiming to secure a foothold in electric vehicles, robotics, and digital health by investing in the manufacture of three new technologies—A.I., semiconductors, and communication devices that run on 5G and 6G wireless networks.

Total revenue for the world’s biggest companies fell 4.8% to $31.7 trillion this year—the first decline in half a decade.

Taiwan-based Hon Hai Precision Industry—better known as Foxconn—had an impressive year. Reporting a record $181 billion in revenue in 2020, the largest electronics manufacturer in the world jumped four spaces in the Global 500. As Apple’s biggest supplier, as well as a manufacturer to giants such as Amazon, Xiaomi, and Sony’s PlayStation, Foxconn has benefited immensely from the consumer tech boom triggered by the abrupt global shift to homeschooling and working from home during the pandemic, a trend expected to continue. Finally, the company’s push into the electric vehicle market, via its “Foxconn 3.0 vision,” has met with early successes following a partnership with EV maker Fisker.

Taiwan-based Hon Hai Precision Industry—better known as Foxconn—is the largest electronics manufacturer in the world, recording over $172 billion in revenue in 2019. It’s a supplier for Apple (its biggest client), Amazon, Xiaomi, and Sony's Playstation. At a time when the smartphone market is reaching saturation, Foxconn is planning to invest in electric vehicles, robotics, digital health, and artificial intelligence as part of its “Foxconn 3.0 vision.” Foxconn founder Terry Gou resigned as chairman in 2019 to run for Taiwan’s presidency. After dropping his bid, Gou pledged in January 2020 to be “the tiger that leads Hon Hai." He remains on the company’s board.

The world's 500 largest companies generated $31.2 trillion in revenues and $1.7 trillion in profits in 2014. Together, this year's Fortune Global 500 employ 65 million people worldwide and are represented by 36 countries.

Global business is back. After limping through a worldwide financial crisis and economic slowdown, the 500 largest companies ranked by revenues shattered all sorts of performance records in 2013: They racked up combined revenues of $31.1 trillion, up 2.5% from 2012, and profits soared 27% to nearly $2 trillion. China’s 95 companies (up from 89 last year) posted $5.8 trillion in revenues. The U.S. has four fewer companies on the list than last year but remains (for now) the country leader, with 128 corporations on the list—including No. 1 Wal-Mart Stores—reporting $8.6 trillion in revenues.

Hon Hai Precision Industry is better known as Foxconn, the name it uses outside China/Taiwan. Hon Hai is the world’s largest electronics contract manufacturer, and one of its largest employers. Its business is divided into four segments: consumer electronics, cloud and networking, computing products and components, and others. Hon Tai manufactures about 70% of Apple’s iPhones, and assembles products for Microsoft, Amazon, and others. Founded in 1974, Hon Hai began trading publicly in 1991.
