Oil refining and pipeline players HollyFrontier and Sinclair Oil merged in 2022, creating the combined HF Sinclair. The Dallas-based corporation maintains the legacy Sinclair apatosaurus (brontosaurus) logo that dates back nearly 100 years and the “DINO” stock ticker, harkening back to the storied history of fossil fuels. HF Sinclair processes almost 700,000 barrels of crude oil a day, counting refineries in Washington, New Mexico, Wyoming, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Utah. HF Sinclair also has lubricants and specialty products facilities in Canada and the Netherlands, and has branched out with renewable diesel production at its Wyoming and New Mexico refineries.

Intel and Sinclair Hotel partner on "hotel of the future"

Sinclair Hotel has partnered with Intel to create the "hotel of the future" in Fort Worth, Texas. Using POE (power of ethernet) rooms include automation for lighting, climate control, and a virtual assistant.

So today we're sitting at Sinclair Hotel, which is the hotel of the future. It was written Lee built in 1929 as an office building. I was very, very interested in doing a conversion off a historic building into upscale luxury hotel. And this was a prime candidate, not forward, truly connected building where over 7000 end points are connected, using Internet cables and low voltage part. So originally, the project was to find us just a standard conversion off office building into a hotel. Using 100 year old technology, a sea power and led lighting, I started searching if anybody using low voltage to follow led lights tonight ran into a gentleman at Cisco Systems who had been doing it, Glare became one of the first project in the country to use the BOT power technology so extensively power reason that has been around for a long time. It's that part's not knew the way that they're using it in this building this new, however, Ethernet historically has been used for powering things like cameras and things along those lines, and here they just took it for beauty is promising in the sense that you can send both data and power over a same cable. We have Bluetooth sensors in our guest room, so of course we cannot have a camera in the room. The Bluetooth sensors create a mesh in the room. As you walk through that mash, you create a disturbance of that network. That's where Intel comes and plays, a role we used there bomb site servers to process that data, the role of Intel were a data company, and we're experts in understanding how to collect data, analyzed data and make sense of that data to Dr Timely insights. With that data, getting information from a single sensor on Lee give you a single point of of information. When you combine that information from other sensors or other types of information, now you have more contextualized information that could be more relevant to the building itself. After labor, the second highest line item for expense in the hotel operation is your utility bills, and saving 40% of utility bill is very significant. A sensor that saying it's cold outside is one point of information. A sensor that saying it's cold outside and there are people in the building is a different level of information that then you can make an intelligent choice on use the heater. The room is unoccupied. Center will tell if the room is unoccupied. If it's a south facing window, we can bring the shared down to pull off the room, and then we can turn the lights off. We can also turn the TV off, change the thermostat, setting a little bit to optimize the power consumption for the room. So this ability to communicate with every device using purity poverty is what makes it very promising at technology. When you sit down at the bar and you put your phone down, it charges the bar top charted your phone. That's really important. When you get into the shower, it could be set to the perfect temperature that that you want it set to just having the controls in a convenient place and the water turn on at the right temperature is very important. So we have a very beautiful mirror in your bathroom, which has an infotainment system in it. It's all powered, using low voltage Ethernet cables as well. What we're learning is most gadgets or devices in a hotel guest room, their power. But it is enough that we can use traditional peewee poverty to Barbara T. V. A C unit in the room, your bathroom mirror. But we're doing in this project as we look around. We are testing appliances that can be Harvard, using some of the technologies we've learned in this building. And we can make already energy efficient appliances in the market more energy efficient way. Want to inspire other people to follow, for example, of taking that kind of technology and driving the cost out of their build out? You don't need an electrician's to install electricity in the way that for doing it. Yeah, I think the key learnings on a project like this is think a little bit more ambitiously. You look a fruits example of taking even things like the diesel generator and eliminating it. Putting battery powered backups for a whole hotel. Something like that, I think is, is incredibly impressive, and it made all of us step back and look at okay. We have to start challenging the status quo even more so. I started researching. Is anybody using batteries in particularly T mind batteries to Power Building's backup over, and I didn't find anyone. So we approached our city and we convinced them that it will be a very green thing to do. You know, we have no noise pollution, not storing diesel fuel on site. And we don't have fumes coming out, but you have to justice generator every week. That's also a requirement. And today we have the fuss working. Lead him Iron battery backup system for Emergency Barber. It runs our elevators, all the emergency floor of the building. There's people like Farouq who are out leading the charge in thinking about old things in a new way, and it's really inspiring.
