Three-quarters of Hilti North America’s employees meet with customers—on construction sites, in offices, or virtually—supplying crews with the tools, materials, and software they need to build highways, homes, and everything in between. Though the pandemic slowed many building plans last year, the Plano, Texas–based subsidiary of Liechtenstein’s Hilti Group committed to not laying off any of its 3,200 employees in the U.S. The company, known for heavy-duty drills and demo-hammers, added a “pandemic leave” policy to accommodate time off for caregiving, and it donated money and foodstuffs amounting to more than 20,000 meals to people in need. The firm also sent out packages of personal protective equipment to workers. One employee remarked that Hilti “has done a fantastic job making sure we are all well prepared to work in the field.”
