Gordon Food Service is a family-run food distributor in North America. Based in Wyoming, Mich., the company was founded in 1897 by Isaac Van Westenbrugge as a butter and egg delivery business in Grand Rapids, Mich. After decades of expansion, in 1942 the company was reorganized as Gordon Food Service. It now boasts over 20,000 employees and manages 21 private brands. Gordon Food Service serves independent restaurants, educational institutions, regional and national chain restaurants, hospitals, and long-term care centers. The company also operates Gordon Food Service Stores, which sell commercial staples to local independent restaurants, party planners, nonprofits, caterers, and families. In 2018, its stores adjusted to shifting shopping trends among millennials by offering smaller-sized products for shoppers looking to pick up a few items on weeknights.
