Estée Lauder is the owner of 20 high-end beauty brands such as La Mer, Jo Malone, and M.A.C., which sell in markets around the world. The company was founded in 1946, and is a fixture at department stores like Neiman Marcus in the U.S. and Galeries Lafayette in France. It also operates 1,600 of its own stores. Around 51% of the company’s sales come from skin care, and the rest from makeup, fragrance, and hair products. The company made a huge bet on China over the past few years, its largest market, although it has proven to be challenging.
