Discount retailer Dollar General operates over 20,000 stores and employs more than 195,000 people across the U.S., particularly in small towns and rural communities. The country’s biggest variety store by revenue, Dollar General sells a wide range of consumer staples from food and cleaning supplies to gardening tools and prepaid phones. The company has an array of private labels but also offers popular name brands like Clorox and Nestlé. Founded in 1939 as J.L. Turner and Son Wholesale, the company took its current name in 1968.
