Online education platform Coursera has long focused on helping users gain digital skills: Now it’s taking on the big kahuna of tech disruption, generative AI. Its Project Genesis, launched in early 2023, aims both to teach users about gen AI and to incorporate it into its teaching methods. In all, the project claims more than 10 million gen AI–class enrollments to date, including 1.3 million in India and 950,000 in Latin America over the past year. Women have steadily grown as a share of students, to 34%. And Coursera’s AI translations and AI-driven personalized Coursera Coach lessons have lowered the barriers to entry for vast numbers of learners.
