Founded in 1871, Continental produces components and systems for the automotive and engineering sectors, including industrial fluid systems, electronics and, most famously, tires. Net profit nearly halved in 2022 to $70 million, amid high materials and energy costs, the global semiconductor shortage and asset impairments due to rising interest rates. Revenue fell 8.2% to $41.4 billion, following Continental’s 2021 divestment of drivetrain and powertrain supplier Vitesco.

This year's Fortune Global 500 generated $27.6 trillion in revenues and $1.5 trillion in profits.

Business insiders have spoken: Asked which companies they most admire, more than 4,100 executives, directors, and analysts chose these top 50 All-Stars.

The world's 500 largest companies generated $31.2 trillion in revenues and $1.7 trillion in profits in 2014. Together, this year's Fortune Global 500 employ 65 million people worldwide and are represented by 36 countries.

Global business is back. After limping through a worldwide financial crisis and economic slowdown, the 500 largest companies ranked by revenues shattered all sorts of performance records in 2013: They racked up combined revenues of $31.1 trillion, up 2.5% from 2012, and profits soared 27% to nearly $2 trillion. China’s 95 companies (up from 89 last year) posted $5.8 trillion in revenues. The U.S. has four fewer companies on the list than last year but remains (for now) the country leader, with 128 corporations on the list—including No. 1 Wal-Mart Stores—reporting $8.6 trillion in revenues.

You are trying to make a lot of changes at, at Ford. How do you get people on board and follow your lead? Well, I think first off, you involve them in the process in terms of where we want to head. It has to, the team has to own where we want to head and what is our vision for the future. Because when they own it. Everybody is responsible for delivering it. And secondly, I think it's really important as a leader to always over = index on communicating with the organization. Never take communication for granted that, that people, cuz there's that saying, you know, the, the illusion that communication happens. You have to be really dedicated as a leader, to, to make sure you're staying involved with the organization. And that they're up to speed, where, of opportunities and where their company is headed. You've been talking a lot about creating a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship at Ford. How do you change a culture in such a large organization? Well, the good news is that is part of our culture. Innovation. Going back to our founder Henry Ford. He was an innovator. He, you know, you look at our recent products. They're very innovative, our F- 150, our ecoboost engines. So, it's not about going out and giving a, a, a, a ten Power Point, presentation to people and saying here's how you innovate. As a leadership chain you have to allow people to innovate and create that environment. For them. So, that's exactly what we're doing as a manager and team, to unleash this capability which is already in our organization. What have been the leadership lessons that you've learned as CEO so far? I think, first off, you serve the company. This is, leadership is a privilege. It's not a right. And, and, it's really important to make sure that you're serving the company. And secondly, I think it's, it's, it's very important to be authentic, and be who you are, and I think lastly it's making sure that you lead with positive leadership. People around the world in my experience respond so much more to positive leadership than other [ INAUDIBLE ] of leadership. What's the best advice that you've ever gotten in your very long career? When I first became a manager, actually. My manager at the time said, listen when you go into your manager's position remember every single day your folks are looking at you. They're looking at what you say, how you say it, that shadow of the leader is pretty large. And for me I always taken that forward and I relate it back to. Positive leadership. Because I think, my experience around the world, people really respond to power, positive leadership. They wanna contribute to something positive.

I know there's a lot of nostalgia about the Lincoln Continental. But why did you decide to revive this brand? The Continental, for us, it's a very iconic name plate. And this vehicle really represents the future of what we call quiet luxury. And Continental was always about elegance. It was around effortless power, and almost a serenity. Too, where you're relaxed, and that's why the, the Continental nameplate is so important for us. You know, though, Mark, when people think of luxury, they think Mercedes. They think BMW. Who is gonna be the buyer of this new Continental? This vehicle is for North America, primarily the US. And for China. And, you know, the reason we've launched this vehicle, and Lincoln, is because people, I think, are looking for something different. We're not trying to be like our competitors. Again, this quiet luxury. There's a certain portion of the population that wants those, that type of luxury. And we wanna give that elegance, and that effortless power, and that serenity to them, with the Lincoln brand. > So you see your key buyer though is gonna be in China because everybody is targeting China. Germany's big 3 even the new Cadillac. How much market can you get in China? Well, we have to realize with Lincoln, we're, we're not the biggest. We're one of the smallest. And how do we use that to our advantage? How do we, how do we make sure that every customer has a personal line? Experience with Lincoln. So our objectives by the end of the decade is we'd like to grow Lincoln worldwide to about 300, 000 units, which is about triple the level we sold last year, and that'll be done through our presence in China, as well as more market coverage. How much is this Lincoln going to be a money maker for Ford? Analysts that I talk to say that Ford has been pouring in lots of money. First the MKZ, now the Lincoln Continental. At what point will this new Lincoln Continental make meaningful profits for Ford? Well I think we're on our way with Lincoln right now. As I said, it's gaining momentum in the market place. We have a big commitment, behind it. We're launching all this new product, we're launching in new markets. So I think we have a very bright future for Lincoln and a very clear space in the marketplace. Fortune
