Change the World 2023
When Chobani’s founding CEO, Hamdi Ulukaya, learned that refugees had been resettling near the company’s yogurt factory in upstate New York, he brought in translators, set up shuttle buses, and introduced training programs—paving the way for hundreds of refugees to get hired by Chobani over the following years. In 2016, when global displacement reached an all-time high, Ulukaya created the Tent Partnership for Refugees, a coalition of businesses supporting refugees’ economic integration. To date, the Tent Partnership’s 300-plus member companies—which include Amazon, Hilton, and Pfizer—have provided tens of thousands of refugees with hiring, training, and mentorship. In September 2022, 45 of those companies committed to hiring over 22,000 refugees in the next three years in the U.S., providing jobs that will generate approximately $913 million in income for refugees annually. And in June 2023, 41 companies pledged to employ and train over 250,000 refugees across Europe in the next three years.
