Founded in 1866, CenterPoint Energy is a Houston-based public utility company in the United States with operations in both electric transmission and natural gas segments. The electric segment maintain the wires, poles, and electric infrastructure serving more than 2.9 million metered customers in the greater Houston area and in southwestern Indiana. The natural gas segment handles intrastate natural gas sales, as well as the transportation and distribution of natural gas to residential, commercial, and industrial customers in states such as Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio, and Texas. This segment also oversees permanent pipeline connections, and provides home repair protection plans to natural gas customers in several states through a third party.
