The discount retailer jumped 77 spots to re-join the Fortune 500 this year for the first time since 2017. Big Lots reported net income of $629.2 million for fiscal 2020, a more than 150% increase from the prior fiscal year. And it carried that momentum into the new year. In the first quarter of 2021 its sales were 13% higher than the same period a year earlier. Based in Columbus, Ohio, the discounter has more than 1,400 stores in 47 states.
