With a slogan like “Happy Employees, Happy Customers,” it comes as no surprise that Bell Bank is deeply invested in the communities it serves. The largest family- and employee-owned bank in the Midwest practices a culture of giving. Staff can nominate a fellow employee for outstanding service through the company’s How Bell of You program, which rewards nominees with personalized gift packages and a luncheon with executives; finalists get a free trip to anywhere in the continental United States. There’s no shortage of team-building outings, and employees and their spouses have even been known to receive a signed gift card from Bell’s chairman on their birthdays. But perhaps the most rewarding perk is the bank’s Pay It Forward effort, which rewards each employee with $1,000 annually to donate to the charity, family, or individual of their choosing. “There are so many amazing stories that come out of this program,” notes one employee. “It makes a huge difference in the area.” Read the Great Place to Work review.
