ArcelorMittal

ArcelorMittal in Fortune Rankings

Headquartered in Luxembourg, ArcelorMittal is one of the world’s largest vertically-integrated steel companies, with 127,000 employees. Formed from the 2007 hostile takeover of European group Arcelor by India’s Mittal, the group’s steel production now largely takes place in Europe (50%) and North America (39%), with iron and coking coal mining also taking place in South America, Africa and the former Soviet Union. The company is a major supplier of steel in various forms to the automotive and construction industries, but it also sells to packaging companies, appliance manufacturers and on the wholesale market, and makes a substantial amount of its revenue from chemical byproducts like slag and ammonia, and surplus capabilities like energy and shipping.
