Amgen, founded in 1980 as Applied Molecular Genetics, is a major biopharmaceutical company. Its top-selling drugs treat autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, plaque psoriasis, and psoriatic arthritis; anemia; osteoporosis; and osteoarthritis. It also makes a number of oncology treatments, including Neupogen and Neulasta, which reduce infection risks for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, and Imdelltra, a recent treatment for extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer. The company works with doctors, medical clinics, dialysis centers, hospitals, and pharmacies, as well as distributes treatments through direct-to-consumer channels.
