AmerisourceBergen
AmerisourceBergen was created out of the 2001 merger of Bergen Brunswig and AmeriSource Health. The Pennsylvania-based health care wholesaler provides distribution for an extensive line of brand-name and over-the-counter pharmaceuticals, as well as medical supplies and equipment. AmerisourceBergen is the second largest drug distributor in the U.S. Over the past few years, the company has faced thousands of lawsuits and a federal criminal investigation over its alleged role in the nationwide opioid crisis. In 2019, along with two other drug distributors, AmerisourceBergen reached a $260 million settlement with two counties in Ohio on the eve of a federal trial. In May 2021 the company and two other major drug distributors were headed to West Virginia federal court to face further allegations that they helped fuel the crisis.
