Change the World 2025
Hawaii struggles with the highest electricity costs of any state in America, in part because the state’s power plants rely heavily on oil for fuel. Renewable-energy provider Ameresco has taken the lead in helping the state build more green alternatives. The Ameresco-built Kūpono Solar Project, on Oahu, the most populous island, went live in 2024. Kūpono powers about 10,000 homes and avoids about 50,000 tons of carbon emissions annually, making it the state’s first large-scale solar power source.
