Employees say:
"The giving program has encouraged and allowed me to be more generous and also be able to think more holistically and strategically about my giving. It is easy for an organization to make corporate donations and gain the tax and reputational benefits, but to empower your employees to give to the things they care about and contribute to their communities is just incredible. So cool."

Employees say: "I love the culture here. By that, I mean that I love the humbleness of everyone from top down, and the team player attitude that everyone embraces. You would not know whether a person was a CEO or an admin assistant here, because everyone treats each other as equals. We check our attitudes and egos at the door. That means a lot to me."

Employees say:
"The success, development and well-being of all Hilcorp employees is at the forefront of the company's mission. I feel like I serve a true purpose and have the full support of my leadership and team."

Employees say:
"The caring actions of the people that work for this company are beyond any other place I have worked. I take a lot of pride in telling people where I work and how amazing and wonderful our company truly is—not only to the employees, but the community."

Hilcorp, founded in 1989, is the country’s largest privately owned oil and natural gas producer, and rises seven spots from the previous year’s list. The company has been bridging gaps in its representation—women make up 22% of its executive and C-level managers, and comprise 26% of its senior leader positions. The company also began improving benefits in 2022, launching focus groups with more than 600 employees to gauge helpful additions.

The largest private oil and natural gas producer in the country, Hilcorp Energy fosters a culture of collaboration among its nearly 2,900 employees, who have the opportunity to literally share in the company’s wealth with a generous buy-in program.
- In 2022, Hilcorp Energy initiated the latest in its five-year BHAGs (Big Hairy Audacious Goals). If it is met, each employee will receive either $75,000 toward a new car or $55,000 in cash, plus up to $25,000 for the charity of their choice.
- In October 2022, Hilcorp launched the Hilcorp Leadership Academy, a six-month program to develop and improve skills among employees interested in a leadership role within the company.
- Based on employee feedback, Hilcorp now provides more paid time off for new mothers, has increased the company’s contribution to 401(k) plans, and began offering an additional health insurance plan with a lower deductible.
- Hilcorp hosts giving fairs at multiple locations across the company, including a virtual option, creating opportunities for employees to connect with local charitable organizations.

Employees say:
"Hilcorp places an emphasis on individual 'ground-level' decision-making for day-to-day operations and general improvements. This management style has enabled the organization to swiftly make meaningful changes for safe operations, cost savings, and production. It also improves the value that I feel as a worker knowing I have the power to make change when I make a reasonable case to do so. The asset I work at was taken over by Hilcorp from a company with a very 'top-down' management style. Since Hilcorp took over, production has increased, and safety incidents have decreased. It's really quite extraordinary."

Employees say:
"I feel like the 'Act as an Owner' mentality of this company really empowers me to do the best I can for the company's success. I am given many opportunities to learn new things through all the training available to me and make myself a better person every day. 'Get better every day' has really made an impact on my life for the best. I couldn't see myself wanting to work for anyone else."
