Woolworths, the other of the two biggest Australian supermarket chains, is led by Amanda Bardwell, who became CEO in 2024. She’s the first female chief executive to lead the company, founded in 1924. She joined Woolworths in 2001 and most recently oversaw the company's digital arm, WooliesX. The company is struggling with declining profitability and regulatory scrutiny amid an Australian cost-of-living crisis; Bardwell hopes a restructuring will lead to $262 million in savings by the end of the year.
