In 2020, Christina Zhu became the first woman appointed to Walmart China's top seat. A former McKinsey consultant and ex-president of dairy company Fonterra's China operations, she led record sales to the tune of $17 billion for Walmart in fiscal 2024. The U.S. retail behemoth recently sold its $3.7 billion stake in Chinese e-commerce partner JD.com to focus on its own operations. As of the second quarter in fiscal 2025, nearly half of Walmart China's sales are digital, with strong growth driven by its membership-only warehouse chain, Sam's Club.
