It’s fitting that a maverick like Ambar Bhattacharyya just happens to be a managing director at a VC fund called, well, Maverick Ventures.

The $382 million San Francisco–based fund focuses on a stable of health care firms. But telemedicine is one of its biggest focal points—and that’s a field in which Bhattacharyya has plenty of experience. He’s a veteran of MinuteClinic, the retail clinic firm that also has expanded aggressively into the virtual care space, especially after its acquisition by CVS Health. He launched his career with work at the likes of Bain & Company and Bain Capital Ventures. And his academic résumé spans the gamut from economics to psychology to an MBA from Harvard.

In the 12 years that Bhattacharyya has been a part of the venture capital world, he’s been involved with six companies that have gone public. He has also led investments with startups such as Artemis Health, Caribou Biosciences, Centivo, Cityblock Health, Collective Medical Technologies, Docent Health, hims and hers, Homology Medicines, and Notable Health.
