Born in Detroit and raised by a single mother, Brown-Philpot went to college at Wharton, got her MBA at Stanford, and once worked as an M&A analyst at Goldman Sachs. She joined Google in 2003. During her nine years in at the tech giant, she worked for Sheryl Sandberg (“a mentor”), headed online sales and operations for Google India, and founded the Black Googler Network, a key component of Google’s efforts around diversity.
