You thought you had everything covered after the mashed potato incident at Thanksgiving. You were wrong.

Maybe you forgot a key ingredient for Christmas dinner. Or a friend (or, worse, family member) has announced they want to drop off a gift and you didn’t get them anything. Finding a store that’s open and can come to your rescue can be a hit-or-miss affair, but there are a few options.

You’ll need to be flexible—and willing to drive farther than you want in many cases. And hours will vary from location to location, assuming you don’t live in one of the municipalities that has laws prohibiting major stores from opening on Christmas. Pro tip: It’s always a good idea to call first.
